Rubus odoratus / Thimbleberry

sold out

Best of both worlds, Rubus odoratus is in the rose family and the blackberry genus - but has no thorns! This beauty lives in forest edges and disturbed sites where it appreciates partial shade and soil that has been enriched with fallen leaves. It spreads by rhizomes and needs space to grow. It is a host plant for the yellow-banded sphinx moth and supports many native bees including bumblebees who play the flowers like kazoos when they buzz-feed on the pollen! In late summer, the flowers transform into delicious berries that melt in your mouth. If you’re lucky, the birds will let you enjoy them too.

Sun Exposure: Sun, Partial Shade, Shade

Soil Moisture: Medium Wet, Medium, Medium-Dry

Height: 4-6 ft

Bloom Time: June, July

Bloom Colour: Pink

Available in a 1.5 gallon pot.
