Zizia aurea / Golden Alexanders

Zizia aurea is a member of the carrot family and like its cousins, sports an umbel of yellow flowers. It is an important plant for swallowtail butterflies, who feed on the leaves during their caterpillar stage, and its small flowers support many short-tongued insects. It blooms fairly early in the season and brightens areas up with its golden yellow flowers.
