Asclepias syriaca / Common Milkweed

$4.00

This milkweed species supports numerous insects and butterflies, and is a host plant for monarch caterpillars. It is the milkweed species that can be spotted growing in fields, along roadsides or popping up in seemingly random places, although populations have been declining in recent years due to suburban sprawl, herbicide use and municipal mowing. It spreads by seed and rhizomes, so make sure to plant it where it has room to sprawl about freely. Once established, its deep taproot helps it tolerate drought conditions.

Sun Exposure: Sun, Partial Shade

Soil Moisture: Medium-Wet, Medium, Medium-Dry, Dry

Height: 3 ft

Bloom Time: July, August
